The tour

27 stops through a working household. Everything you see is the live system on a fictional family — switch chairs in the banner above to see it as the principal, the chef, or the housekeeper.

1. 01The principal's homeFour questions, answered in the order a principal asks them: is the house ready, what is tonight, who is coming, how do I ask. No machinery — only that it is running.→
2. 02The manager's dayThe state of every residence at a glance — five watchers pour into one ranked queue of what needs you now, approvals first, each item with its approve or decline on the row. The residence cards drop you into any single house’s day. The platform belongs to this chair; everyone else gets a page.→
3. 03One residence, whole98 rooms from the shop drawings, cellar to lawns — each with its cleaning time and the arithmetic behind it, the appliance register with its warranty clocks, the finishes ledger, and the estate manual.→
4. 04The DrawingsEvery floor of every residence, drawn to convention — rooms in their true shapes, stairs with riser counts, a draftsman’s scale bar true to each sheet — and colour-coded to the hands that keep it. Switch the banner to Housekeeper and it opens on her own floor, her rooms, her mark-it-kept.→
5. 05The week that plans itselfThe family’s rooms lead every day; outdoor work lands together on Friday so the house meets the weekend swept. The staffing arithmetic says how many hands the house truly needs.→
6. 06An evening, forecastBottles, glasses, plates, and servers computed from the guest list — every number shows its arithmetic, set against what the cellar actually holds.→
7. 07The door on the nightThe doorman’s iPad: name-search check-in, a QR accelerator, and allergies that flash red so the kitchen never learns one at the table.→
8. 08Passes — never an accountGuests and vendors get a pass, not a login. Address withheld from vendors, shown to invited guests; location that ends itself at the kerb.→
9. 09The emergency buttonsFive classified channels that already know who answers them. Triage questions first — safer, never slower — then one press reaches the plumber and the general contractor by text, email, and a spoken call script, and the log keeps every word.→
10. 10The Trust LedgerThe general contractor’s Profile of Experience, and repairs as they actually went — success, partial, re-work required — rated one job at a time. A ledger that only remembered successes would be marketing.→
11. 11The sky over every roofLive National Weather Service readings at all seven addresses, each sky drawn as one gold mark — sun, shower, snow, storm. When something is coming, the house is told, not just the office.→
12. 12The cellarScanned in once, priced with its basis and date — never invented. Climate log first, because the cooling plant is the real risk, not theft — and a conservation watch that flags any 1.5°F swing inside four hours.→
13. 13The garageService and registration clocks, tire life from real mileage, wash cadence — and a wash requested with one tap.→
14. 14Yacht & jetThe residences that move, kept to the same standard of record: berth and hangar, crew lines, survey clocks counting down in public — and the owner asks for the yard the way they ask for the car.→
15. 15The arrival boardEvery pre-arrival task dimensioned from one datum — wheels-down. Press +45 minutes and the whole evening slides as one piece; a late flight cannot stack delays down a chain that doesn’t exist.→
16. 16The collectionCondition checks on the schedule the medium demands — paper is not bronze — with readings taken at the wall, the way a conservator and an insurer both want them.→
17. 17The menu board273 dishes across twenty kitchens, filtered by diet or by who is eating — every card crossed against the family’s own allergy record at the moment of choosing, not at the table.→
18. 18The chef’s side of the same coinThe published week becomes one order: consolidated across services, specified to grade, split by purveyor — fishmonger, butcher, produce house — each told on its own deadline.→
19. 19The recipe cardsEvery dish with its method, what can be done the day before, and the one thing that actually goes wrong. Covers scale on the card; “a pinch” knows better than to.→
20. 20The floral bookEighty arrangements through the seasons. Choose one and the photograph travels to whoever makes it — a picture is an instruction; a description is a negotiation.→
21. 21The handbooksHow the house does each thing, illustrated — the triple-sheet bed, the wardrobe, the bathroom’s chemical rules. Standards named and sourced, faults listed, safety inside the task. The office sees every chair; the driver opens his own two chapters and nothing else.→
22. 22Guests who stayA room, dates, allergies the kitchen must know — and 72 things a guest can ask for, each reaching the right desk. The house remembers between visits, so nobody asks twice. Switch the banner to Guest and you are Eleanor Grant, seeing only her own stay.→
23. 23Tasks in both directionsPrincipals assign down; the house asks up for authorization. The page knows how this family expects to be asked — and at what dollar line.→
24. 24The Friday reportDrafted every Friday from the live record — issues, costs, projects, staffing — dressed as the document it is. Nothing is sent until you send it.→
25. 25The Sunday BriefOne page for the Principals’ Sunday: what needs their word, what the week cost, which houses are ready. Prints as a letter, because that is what it is.→
26. 26The staff that answersResident assistants who know this household’s record — the care standards, the cellar, the calendar. They answer from what is on file, propose real actions when asked, and say so when the record is silent.→
27. 27The Estate BookNine chapters compiled from the live record, print-ready. If the manager is unreachable, the house still runs from this.→
